St. Louis Fed Releases Annual Report: The Shifting Tides of Global Trade
ST. LOUIS – The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis released its 2022 annual report, “The Shifting Tides of Global Trade,” which examines developing trends in U.S. and world trade, including the headwinds that may be slowing the process of globalization.
In the report’s main essay, economists Subhayu Bandyopadhyay, Maximiliano Dvorkin, Fernando Leibovici and Ana Maria Santacreu examine how trade blocs and geopolitical tensions affect trade, how the U.S.-China trade relationship has changed over time, how critical goods are susceptible to international trade shocks, and how global value chains are vulnerable to global risks.
The report also includes a messagefrom St. Louis Fed President and CEO Jim Bullard, who discusses trade and globalization since the 1980s. In a separate message, St. Louis Fed Board Chair Jim McKelvey writes about embracing a pattern of scrutiny of the Federal Reserve and the importance of the Fed’s regional structure.
In a section titled Our People, Our Work, readers can learn more about the Bank’s impact on the Fed’s Eighth District and beyond with interesting statistics, such as the number of data series in our free economic database FRED and the number of active engagements in our Econ Lowdown economic education curriculum.
