St. Louis Fed’s Economy Museum Celebrates 10th Anniversary
ST. LOUIS – The Economy Museum at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis celebrates its 10th anniversary on Sept. 22, with special economic lessons, tips on how to spot counterfeit money and more.
Since it’s opening in 2014, the museum has expanded its footprint by 1,400 square feet, added an authentic 28-pound gold bar that visitors can attempt to lift, and interactive exhibits that teach pre-school children to adults about personal finance and how the U.S. economy functions.
“The St. Louis Fed’s Economy Museum is a hidden gem in downtown St. Louis that is free, fun, family-oriented and filled with financial education,” Museum Director Abby Anderson said. “Over the past decade, scores of school groups and hundreds of individuals have toured the museum each year and we’re delighted to add to the educational and entertainment options to downtown St. Louis.”
To commemorate the anniversary, the museum created a special exhibit to showcase its formation. It also is offering special economics lessons for all grade levels, including how cookies help sweeten the economy, how to spot counterfeit currency and a tabletop escape-room-style puzzle.
The museum also features a gift shop where visitors can pick up a free shredded-money souvenir or purchase other small mementos, such as jewelry, gold bar merchandise, currency-themed items, clothing, books, coins, toys and soap with real money inside.
The museum is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and admission is free. For more information, visit the museum website.
