Unveiling of the redesigned $20 bill, which will be released in late 2003

WHEN: Tuesday, May 13, 2003
9 a.m. - 9:30 a.m., CDT

WHERE: Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Washington, D.C.

WHO: John W. Snow, Secretary of the Treasury; Alan Greenspan, Chairman of the Federal Reserve System; Rosario Marin, United States Treasurer; Thomas A. Ferguson, Director of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing; and W. Ralph Balsam, Director of the U.S. Secret Service.

WHY: In response to advances in technology that make digital counterfeiting easier and cheaper, the new $20 bill, which will feature the addition of color, will be safer and more secure because it will be harder to fake and easier to check.

NOTE: The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis will have a specimen of the new $20 bill. At 9:30 a.m., CDT, the electronic press kit, background information and photographs of the new bill will be accessible by logging on to: www.moneyfactory.com/newmoney.
