For release: April 13, 2006
MEDIA ADVISORY
WHAT: Arkansas Governor Mike
Huckabee will proclaim April "Financial Literacy Month."
WHEN: 9:15 a.m., Wednesday, April 19
WHERE: Governor's Reception Room
WHO: Little Rock Branch of the Federal Reserve
Bank of St. Louis and the Jump$tart Coalition
WHY: Studies suggest that increased financial
knowledge contributes to financial and economic success. Although
young people are demonstrating an increased aptitude and ability
to manage financial resources—credit cards, insurance, savings
accounts, etc.—much work must still be done to give them the
information and tools they need to make wise choices.
This event will be a prelude to "Teach Children To Save,"
scheduled for Tuesday, April 25, at Baker Elementary in Little Rock,
and Wednesday, April 26, at Bayarri Elementary in Springdale, and
which will feature employees of the St. Louis Fed's Little Rock
Branch, bankers and other professionals who will discuss with students
the importance of saving money to create better, more rewarding
lives.
