Ngina Chiteji is an associate professor at New York University’s Gallatin School and an associate professor of public service at New York University’s Wagner School. Her areas of interest include retirement saving, the distribution of household wealth in the United States, how to properly measure debt in national surveys, intergenerational correlations in outcomes, the criminal justice system and macroeconomic policy.

Chiteji is the author of Wealth Accumulation and Communities of Color (co-edited with Jessica Gordon Nembhard) and several articles published in scholarly journals, including Labour Economics, the Journal of Family and Economic Issues, the Journal of International Development, the Journal of Black Studies and the American Economic Review: Papers and Proceedings.

In addition to her work in academia, Chiteji is a former employee of the U.S. Congressional Budget Office and a former member of the Board of the National Academy of Social Insurance. She earned her Ph.D. in economics from the University of North Carolina and her undergraduate degree from Brown University.
