ST. LOUIS – Mike Kaiman, a senior economic education specialist in the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis Economic Education Department, has received a Gold Award from the National Association of Economic Educators (NAEE) for his lesson, Externalities

The lesson helps students grasp the spillover effects of markets on third parties, a concept that often proves challenging. Developed in partnership with Marwa Hassan, director of curriculum, instruction, and assessment for AP Microeconomics at the College Board, the lesson provides an active, engaging approach to understanding positive and negative externalities.

“I am extremely happy and humbled to receive this award from an organization that, like the St. Louis Fed, is committed to improving economic education for all learners by making it relatable and easy to understand,” said Kaiman.

The St. Louis Fed’s Economic Education Department provides teachers, schools and school districts with programs and resources to improve student understanding of economics and personal finance. Econ Ed at the St. Louis Fed offers more than 400 free educational resources about economics, personal finance, money and banking.
