Fireside Chat at Mississippi Delta Event

St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem participated in a fireside chat at the event “Financial Well-being in the Delta: A Conversation on Banking, Credit and Small Business.” The event in Itta Bena, Miss., was organized by the St. Louis Fed’s Community Development team.

President Musalem discussed the St. Louis Fed’s role in communities around the Eighth Federal Reserve District and his views on the U.S. economy and monetary policy. Douglas Scarboro, senior vice president and regional executive of the St. Louis Fed’s Memphis Branch, moderated the conversation.

This event took place during President Musalem’s Aug. 7-8 visit to the Mississippi Delta in the St. Louis Fed’s Memphis Zone.

During this trip, President Musalem saw agriculture in the field and observed how technology is helping to increase yields. He also met with members of the Delta Council, an economic development organization representing Northwest Mississippi counties of the Delta region. The trip concluded with a visit to Staple Cotton Cooperative Association (Staplcotn), and a tour of a manufacturing facility in Leflore County.
